Differences Between Limit Switches and Fan Switches

There are two main types of temperature switches used in HVAC systems, fan switches and limit switches. Senasys currently only manufactures a duct limit switch, and we are in the research and development phase for a duct fan and limit control.

Our duct limit switch responds to a change in temperature, opens the circuit shutting down (limit) the equipment. For more information about our duct limit switch, click here.

Senasys duct limit switches are commonly found in HVAC air duct systems. When warm air is flowing through the air duct, the limit switch’s bi-metal heating element expands, opening the micro switch to shut down a booster fan or other equipment.

As mentioned above, we are in the research and development phase for a duct fan and limit switch. In the same above application, the duct fan and limit switch would sense the change in air temperature. Although rather than opening the micro switch contacts, it closes the contacts turning the fan on.
